“The truth of the story lies in the details” – Paul Auster
“It’s the little things that make the big things possible.” – J. Willard Marriott
“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” – Lao Tzu
Taking outdoor photos, without a doubt, is one of my favorite pastimes. Flowers, landscapes, and wildlife are wonderful subjects, all a part of the nature that Lao Tzu describes above – one that is never rushed yet always seems to be complete in all it offers. No wonder one feels at peace and at rest in its presence 😊
Last weekend when I came home from my walk, I was anxious to sort through the photos I had taken. As I scanned through them, I looked closely at each one (especially the wildflowers), marveling at the tremendous detail found in each one.
How can something so random, something so unattended, be so beautiful? How can soft petals of orange, purple, and yellow be so colorfully mastered – as if individually painted by hand? The tiny stigma and the frail stamen inside the petals are so delicate, they seem to have been engineered with precision. When you take the time to look closely at them, the detail found within them is breathtaking!
That day I happened to catch a hummingbird perched on a branch. He must have had a little Hollywood in him as he sat so still – posing for the camera as if he wanted to ensure I got his “best side” 😊 One picture I took this weekend and the other one on the collage is a picture I had taken a few months back in the same area.
When you look close at these birds, the detail found within their creation is amazing. That tiny beak is perfectly shaped and sized – not only to feed on nectar, but to pollinate the flowers along its journey. Its weight (about the same as a nickel) and its small wings that rapidly flap 12-80 times per second, give it the ability to hover over a flower petal with ease – doing exactly what the Creator designed it to do. Their color is so distinct and their feathers glisten in the sunlight. So beautiful to watch and observe as they dutifully go about their work!
Stop to think about the intricate detail found in flowers that are “here today and gone tomorrow” (Luke 12:28 GNT). Look at the tremendous design of the hummingbird in all its splendor, yet Jesus reminds us that we are “far more valuable to Him than any birds!” (Luke 12:24 NLT)
If the wildflowers of the field and the plentiful birds we see all around us are crafted with such intricate detail, how can we be any different? How can what transpires within each of our lives not have a specific purpose, a precise design, or an intended outcome?
Be reminded today that your Creator knew you BEFORE you were created in the womb (Jeremiah 1:5), that He saw your unformed body, and that ALL YOUR DAYS were written in His book before one of them came to be (Psalm 139:16). Every single detail of who you are, what you look like, what you are experiencing, and what you will accomplish has already been known. The intricate details of your life are part of the design my friend – a design that has specific purpose just for you!
That horrible mistake, the limiting handicap, the unjust suffering and that overbearing obstacle were known and strategically placed exactly where they needed to occur. Just like the delicate pollen tube of the flower and the precision-crafted beak of the hummingbird and the purposes behind their design – so too has the Father shaped and crafted a life for you that fits His plans and purposes – one that has significance far beyond this world for you and others.
REST in the intricate details as they unfold around you – knowing they were never driven by fate or chance, but crafted with intent and purpose. Never look upon them as unjust, unfair, or unwarranted but an integral part of the design – shaping who you are and who you are becoming.
You see….this world and all its experiences are just the beginning. Each intricate detail has a specific purpose within your story – a story that never ends.
So no sickness, no loss, no setback or hindrance is insignificant. No blessing, relationship, or circumstance is meaningless. Each detail that has happened, is happening now, or will a part of your future has a precise intention.
Our part is to see the details as they truly are – not as happenstance, coincidence, or fate, but as purposeful, meaningful, and precisely crafted. Our part is to trust in the Creator who knew us before we were formed and who will care for us through each detail as it unfolds.
You know….the flowers never “toil or spin”, yet God clothes them in a splendor greater than Kings! The birds never “sow or reap”, yet God feeds them 😊
REST in the details of life – trusting God is behind each one. Embrace the PEACE of knowing there is a specific, intended design within them – a vital part of your story. Each detail is for your ultimate good (Romans 8:28) and connected to a future God has in store for you that is filled with hope and prosperity (Jeremiah 29:11).
Never forget the details don’t end here – they begin here 😊
May God help you see the significance they hold for you and others and may you trust in Him as each unfolds in its due season.
“He’s working intricate details with eternal effects, weaving your path around the right places and people to accomplish the extraordinary in you.” – Beth Moore
