“Each life involves an essential errand, not simply the task of survival, but a life-mission imbedded in the soul from the beginning.” – Michael Meade
“You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” – Psalm 139 15:16 NLT
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11 ESB
“Jehovah will perfect that which concerneth me: Thy lovingkindness, O Jehovah, endureth forever …” – Psalm 138:8 ASV
“There is no greater gift you can give or receive than to honor your calling. It’s why you were born and how you become most truly alive.” – Oprah Winfrey
Today, amid your daily routines and responsibilities, take a moment to think about your life and why you are here. What underlying purposes filled with destiny lie beneath the surface? Does there seem to be a particular design, or a meaningful intention connected to the events or circumstances that surround it currently? Can you see the essential errand you are here to accomplish as Michael Meade suggests above?
Whether you realize it or not, you have one – a destined reason for your existence. The Scripture verses above validate this plan that was known before your birth – a plan that God is perfecting within your life as you read this.
Like many others, you may feel like there is nothing special or resolute when it comes to your life. In fact, you may see nothing but indecisiveness and ambiguity – circumstances that are a far cry from anything destiny-driven or legacy-building.
You might even feel like your life’s purpose has been hijacked – stolen by an illness, taken prisoner by an unforeseen accident, or commandeered by another person’s poor choices.
Regardless of what you see or feel, your divine, created purpose is firmly intertwined within every aspect of your life. I often refer to it as your “predestined pathway” – a preordained journey you were destined to travel. No person can diminish it, no event can cancel it, and existing circumstances cannot weaken or devalue it.
Connecting to this calling is vital. As Oprah suggests above, it encompasses everything it means to be truly alive, happy, and fulfilled.
If you currently feel life has no meaning, lacks direction, or seems futile and inconsistent, take some time to consider the following:
Your Essential Errand is Connected to your Passions and to the People Who Surround You
If you are looking for your purpose, there is a direct correlation between it and your talents and passions my friend. Each of us has been gifted with an aptitude or ability that defines who we are and what we find exciting and pleasurable. A loving God equips each of us with the specific skills we need and the distinctive desires we possess that connect to the fulfillment of our created purposes here.
God says, “I know the plans I have for you” – plans that are filled with goodness and hope. Why my friend would He gift you with talents or fill your heart with passions that are in direct opposition to that plan and purpose?
Whatever you excel at, whatever makes you want to get out of bed in the morning and accomplish with fervor and enthusiasm, those things are directly connected to your essential errand – to the reason why you exist.
Your family, friends, and acquaintances – even people who you randomly run across – are all a part of your purpose and destiny. There are no chance encounters or random connections. God has a purpose-driven meaning behind their presence within your life. Your essential errand is tied to these relationships in deep, meaningful ways.
If you can’t connect with a deeper purpose right now, start looking hard at your talents and how you are utilizing them within your life. Start examining each of your relationships and your role within them – even the ones that seem insignificant to you in the moment. These two aspects of life profoundly relate to what you are here to undertake and finish.
Your Essential Errand is Spiritual in Nature and Extends Beyond this Life
Your true purpose isn’t found in earthly, materialistic things or humanistic goals or achievements. The essential errand you are here to accomplish may be indirectly connected to those things, but it is never the foundation or basis behind it.
When you think about it, you are a spiritual being first and foremost. Your divine purpose is spiritually centered and transcends the boundaries of a mortal life. It’s connected to spiritual attributes and principles more so than human goals and earthly possessions
As an example, wealth accumulation isn’t the foundational core of your purpose here, but it may be connected in some way to the essential errand you must accomplish. Career goals, educational aims, and other earthly aspirations may be tied to your created purpose, but they are not at the epicenter of it.
If your divine purpose is likened to a fully grown, flourishing tree, then the divine principles connected to it are likened to its established roots that provide nourishment and stability to it – giving it life.
So, go back and think of those talents and passions for a second. Think about the people who surround your life. What spiritual principles surround these things and are at the center of current events and circumstances involving them?
How am I using my talents in a way that amplifies spiritual principles in my life? How can I use my strengths to promote love, peace, kindness, and generosity? Where within my current relationships can I be more patient, gentle, and faithful? Are my current circumstances demanding I exert more self-control, practice more patience, or embrace a more trusting heart?
My friend, these spiritual principles not only help us to accomplish our essential errand here, but they move us beyond this world – preparing us for what’s to come in the next life.
Can you see how spiritual principles are at the nucleus of our created purpose? Look for and practice them within your talents, passions, and the relationships you hold, and you will be well on your way to accomplishing the essential errand you are here to achieve.
Ask God for Clarity and Direction – Surrendering Your Way to His Plan
In the Scriptures, God promises to reveal wisdom, provide direction, and stir our hearts and minds if we simply ask Him. If you are unclear or unsure of your divine purpose, spend more time moving closer to God. This kind of reverence is the beginning of wisdom my friend! (Proverbs 9:10)
Connecting to the essential errand we are here to perform requires us to set aside our own interpretations – surrendering our own rationale and reasoning to the revelation of His perfect plan for us.
You might have a hard time understanding how a diagnosis, a disability, a long-term hardship, or how any suffering can be a part of a destined plan. When we surrender our thoughts and ways surrounding these kinds of circumstances, we open our hearts and minds to see the essential errand we are here to perform within those events of life.
Remember, our true created purpose, our authentic essential errand, has a spiritual, eternal essence that transcends any and all earthly boundaries. It cannot be limited or eliminated by any human condition or situation. Praise God His purposes for us prevail! 😊
My prayer is you take some time this week to contemplate everything mentioned above – connecting to your predestined pathway and the essential errand you are here to accomplish!
God bless you all 😊
