“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.” – Rumi
“Heal the soul first, then healing of the mind and body will follow.” – Zhi Gnag Sha
“All the world is full of suffering. It is also full of overcoming.” – Helen Keller
“Everything is possible for the one who believes.” – Jesus speaking in Mark 9:23 NIV
“Oh Lord, my God, I cried out to you and you healed me.” – Psalm 30:2
When I think about all the events I’ve witnessed in my life, the most powerful ones involved healing.
I will never forget the numerous times my grandmother was told she would never walk again. I remember the days we would visit her bedside – jumping up into her queen-sized bed to receive a kiss on the cheek and a warm embrace that only a grandmother could give.
Even as a small child, I couldn’t reconcile my grandmother’s condition with her cheerful disposition. How could someone sentenced to a life in bed be so happy? Where was the anger and self-pity? Why no traces of doubt? Why didn’t her eyes shed tears, or her facial expressions reveal the stark reality of her medical condition?
Looking back at it now, I see the tremendous faith and confidence my grandmother had in God and his ability to heal. I believe that faith, along with her determination, made fools out of the doctors and the finality of their diagnosis. She didn’t fool those doctors once or twice, but SEVERAL times throughout the years 😊 Praise God for His power to heal!
Likewise, the image of my father lying in a hospital bed after his first heart surgery will be forever etched in my mind. I remember staring in amazement at the machines that pumped his lungs full of air and kept his blood flowing. Death seemed more probable than living at that time.
My father lived 37 more years beyond that initial heart surgery – all made possible by the God who heals.
There are many things I love about God and my relationship with Him, but the one I admire most is His determination to restore – His power to heal.
Where are you experiencing the power of healing right now in your own life?
Maybe your experience with healing has nothing to do with physical health. Your healing might be a renewed friendship that was dying or a mended heart that was severely broken. Maybe life has been given to a checkbook that seemed to be bleeding to death or a glimmer of light has broken through the darkness of depression and despair. Maybe the process of renewed faith or a restored relationship with God is beginning this evening as you read this article.
As you reflect on the evidence of God’s healing power at work in your life right now, here are a few things to consider:
The Presence of Faith
Faith, our ability to lean on and trust in God regardless of the outcome, energizes the healing and restoration process.
I want to emphasize the word “energizes” here. If healing and restoration were contingent on our faith, we would all be destined to fail! The ultimate act of healing and restoration, Christ’s death on the cross, wasn’t in anyway connected to our own faithfulness or unrelenting belief but came to us as a gift of mercy and grace from God Himself.
In my own life, God’s grace and healing power has often lovingly shown itself in the midst of my own doubt and disbelief.
The point I want to make here is that healing isn’t reserved solely for the godly. Restoration doesn’t flow into our lives based strictly on our ability to believe.
Yet, God’s Word places a strong connection between faith and healing – between belief and restoration:
“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
“But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, ‘Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well.’” (Luke 8:50)
“And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said, ‘Do you believe that I am able to do this?’ They said to Him, ‘Yes, Lord.’ Then He touched their eyes saying, ‘According to your faith let it be to you.’ And their eyes were opened.” (Matthew 9:28-30)
“Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, ‘If You are willing, You can make me clean.’ Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him and said, ‘I am willing; be cleansed.’ As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.” (Mark 1:40-42)
Faith and belief have a way of invigorating God’s healing power – compassionately moving God to act based on our confidence in Him.
Do you have faith that God can restore a broken relationship? Do you believe in His ability to heal the cancer that has stricken your body? Will you surrender in faith to God – allowing Him to heal your heart after the unexplained loss of a loved one? Do you trust that God has your healing and restoration well underway regardless of what your current circumstances look like?
Tonight, look hard at your own levels of faith and belief in the areas of your life in need of healing and restoration – remembering how faith can instigate, invigorate, and accelerate the process!
The Timeliness of Healing
“I am the Lord who heals you.” (Exodus 15:26)
When you study the healing stories within Scriptures, you see the timeliness at play within each – some happening immediately, some driven by the courageous acts of those needing healing, and some that happened at a time when it seemed too late or beyond remedy. Some healing took years to unfold.
If you are in need of healing today, take heart my friend that it is “the Lord who heals you”. He is in control of all that is happening within your life and your times are in His Hands – especially the timeliness behind your healing.
Your healing, no matter how long you’ve waited or how truly beyond hope it seems, is in the sovereign Hands of God and His divine timing for your life.
The Inevitability of Healing
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more because the previous things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)
“The Lord will keep you from harm – He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” (Psalm 121:7-8)
In our suffering, we often forget about the eternal aspects of our being – where mental anguish, physical pain, and earthly disease will not prevail. God is keeping us from harm – both now and forevermore! Healing, no matter how impossible it seems, is on its way 😊 It can happen tomorrow, next month, or in the ages to come where it is eternally and forever sustained because the previous things have passed away.
The Healing Power that Lies within Us
Often, we are faced with situations or circumstances where healing is within our own reach – within our own ability to initiate. God has given each of us the ability to begin the process of healing and restoration in many aspects of life.
“Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” (Proverbs 12:18)
“A prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up….Therefore confess you sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” (James 5:15-16)
Is there a relationship you have where restoration can begin by reaching out, asking for forgiveness, or initiating the conversation? Can you aid the healing process in a loved one by gently caring for them or actively listening to their concerns? Can healing begin when we willingly let go of an addiction, a grudge, or a destructive thought pattern? Can your heartfelt prayer begin the process of healing within yourself and within others?
Have your own actions and behaviors become the barrier to your healing? Has restoration become impossible due to the attitudes and perceptions you hold? In what areas of your life can you tap into the healing power that lies within you?
May God bless you tonight as you meditate on His power to heal and restore. May he give you wisdom to see aspects of your life where healing and restoration are within your own reach and ability. May He strengthen your faith – allowing healing and restoration power to begin flowing aggressively into all the circumstances you face.
Remember my friend, your healing is on it’s way 😊 Trust God and His timing!
