“In the name of God, believe Him!” – Harper Lee
“Therefore, God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name above all names” – Philippians 2:9 NIV
You might find yourself today immersed in a type of injustice that seems beyond remedy, or a hurt that isn’t easily forgotten or ignored. Maybe it’s something you’ve done or said that cannot be undone or a loneliness that permeates every part of your life.
Maybe you feel unlovable or unworthy or the pace of constant change in your life feels overwhelming. You might be longing for your life to finally move in a positive direction, but based on your current circumstances, the probability of that happening seems impossible.
Too often we look within ourselves for the answers. With a sense of disappointment, we realize how limited we are to solve our own dilemmas. Often due to our role or behavior within them, we feel unworthy of any goodness that might come to us – undeserving of a better life for us and others.
But here is something we often forget about – an aspect of our God that goes far beyond our human limitations and indiscretions, far beyond our unworthiness or incapability.
“He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. “– Psalm 23:3 KJV
“For the sake of your name, LORD, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.” – Psalm 25:11 NIV
“This is what the Lord GOD says: It is not for your sake that I will act, house of Israel, but for My holy name,” – Ezekiel 36:22 HCSB
“I, yes I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake and remembers your sins no more.” – Isaiah 43:25 NIV
“Yet He saved them for the sake of His name, to make His power known.” – Psalm 106:8 NIV
Our God acts within our lives based on WHO HE IS, not on who we are. Think about that profound truth today! God isn’t motivated by whether or not we are good enough or spiritual enough or worthy enough. He loves us, forgives us, strengthens us and provides for us based on His name’s sake – based on His character and what He stands for.
With God, justice is inevitable, forgiveness is unlimited, and the power to change our circumstances comes without any question or doubt.
So, my friends, can forgiveness come to us in the midst of what seems unforgiveable? Can loneliness end or can help come to us when we aren’t really worthy of it in the first place? Can love, mercy, and grace infiltrate our circumstances when they are least deserved? Can what seems humanly impossible enter the realm of possibility or can hope transpire when despair is all around us?
Will what is right overcome all that is wrong, and can we count on the immutable nature of our God when everything around us is fast-paced and changing rapidly?
For God’s name’s sake we can! Not by our own power or by our own worthiness or by our own self-sustaining efforts. In Him, all will be made right in the end!
Thank God His name is a name above all names! Thank Him today that He acts based on His name’s sake – to uphold His character and the attributes that define Him. For His name’s sake, we are loved unconditionally, always in His presence, forgiven without limits, and at any moment, can become unsuspecting recipients of His miraculous power.
God bless each of you today for His name’s sake!
