“Hope – sometimes that is all you have when you have nothing else. But if you have it, you have everything.” – Unknown
“Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.” – Desmond Tutu
“Once you choose hope, anything is possible.” – Christopher Reeves
Right now, as I write this, there are literally millions of people affected by various adversities – some so horrific and unimaginable, that words just aren’t enough to adequately describe the painful emotions, the heaviness of heart, or the weight of the burden they carry.
The death that came so suddenly and with such finality that it shook you to the very core. The relationship that ended, and there is no one who will ever hold the same place in your heart again. The dream that is now simply impossible to attain or the loss that is so great, it will take many lifetimes to recover all that is now gone. Physical pain that won’t subside, an addiction that is no longer manageable, or guilt, shame, and regret so powerful, they are beyond repair.
Something unique about the human experience, different from any other living creature or being, is our ability to hold on to something called hope. When everything tangible in our life is gone, lost, ended, or unattainable – we still can grasp, cling to, embrace, and feel what is intangible – that thing called hope. Like the writer mentions above, when there is nothing left, there is still hope, and if you choose it, you have everything!
Whatever you face today, choose hope, and by its nature; it will change you in the present moment and will change how you view tomorrow.
Only God would think of and create something as beautiful as hope. When all looks impossible or insurmountable, it remains. When nothing tangible is left, we can hold on tight to the intangible – hope that springs up out of nothing.
“I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” – Jeremiah 32:26
“Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, ‘Let there be light.’, and there was light.” – Genesis 1: 2-3
“Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him.” – Psalm 62:5
In death, choose the hope of eternity and a life that goes well beyond this world.
In sickness, choose to embrace the hope of healing.
In the relationship that has ended, hold on to the hope of reconciliation – the hope of being together again.
In the dream that seems impossible, choose to hope for the impossible – knowing full well that nothing is impossible for God.
In all that seems unmanageable or beyond repair, put your hope in God alone who can create anything out of nothing – bringing light and life to you again.
God bless you today and always!
