An Unconscious Wandering

“An aimless life, a thoughtless mind, and a hopeless heart are of no use.” – Pooja Chahar

“A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” – John A. Shedd

“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you – a joy.” – Rumi

We are fast approaching the middle of the year!  I don’t know about you, but as far as I’m concerned, 2026 seems to be going by faster than a speeding bullet!

Time has a way of being illusive if we’re not careful.  It can slip by in such a fashion that before we know it, the opportunity is gone, the window has closed, and what was once a potential prospect or outcome is now impossible to accomplish.

What is more troublesome is how those missed chances tend to pass us by unconsciously – as if we are wandering aimlessly in a way we fail to recognize.  We fill our lives with work, errands, and mind-numbing activities like scanning news feeds, channel surfing, or navigating the internet with no real purpose or intention.

Even before such technology, people tended to compartmentalize their lives – fitting them into a preconceived or predetermined box so to speak.  Their unconscious wandering was as simple as following routines, doing what was normally expected within a particular role, or conforming their lives into what their family or community saw as appropriate.

Isn’t it funny how life can be consumed by just plain, mundane living?  We can get caught in the trap of living it in such a way that before we know it, it’s gone!  We lose out on progressing toward a goal or dream by getting stuck in the rut of waking, working, eating, doing chores, and going to bed – repeating these steps over and over and over again – believing that THIS is life when in fact it can be so much more.

When you look at this past year, have you been a victim of unconscious wandering?  Have you mindlessly wasted too much time, fallen into the trap of routine, or became satisfied with a conformed, compartmentalized life?  Was your unconscious wandering fueled by a sense of helplessness or being stuck?

Time is short.  How much longer can you afford to unconsciously wander?

“Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts.” – Psalm 90:12 HCSB

It happens to all of us.  It becomes easier to follow a predictive pattern, to give in to apathy, or to stay within the comfort zone of limited change.

What needs to move a new direction in your life?  What needs to be left behind?  What steps can you undertake that will get you heading down a path that fulfills a dream, accomplishes an overdue goal of yours or pushes you closer to a purpose or vocation that is aligned with your legacy – the reason you are here?

You see, my friend, your purpose isn’t found in dutiful routines or working endlessly or wasting hours-on-end in mindless activity.  It runs much deeper than that!  I’m not suggesting we stop doing our laundry or watching TV or working a job to provide for our families – but I am suggesting we stop getting lost in those things – unconsciously wandering as the years and decades pass us by far too quickly.

Write those dreams down.  Set progressive goals that are realistic and attainable.  Measure your progress often and seek out the help of friends and family to ensure your success.

CREATE a new routine – one that forces you to look hard at those dreams and goals EACH DAY AND WEEK – monitoring your progression and making any adjustments necessary to keep moving in the direction of accomplishing more than simply living and getting by, but making something wonderful out of this life you have been given.

I pray that 2026 is a year where each of us stop unconsciously wandering – a year where we decide to act – to begin LIVING AGAIN!

May God reveal to every one of us the steps we need to take to fulfill our purpose here that is directly aligned to His will for us.  No more procrastination, no more limited mindsets, and no more aimless wandering!   Let’s begin moving positively toward our goals, reaching for our potential and creating a life worth living again, my friends.

May this year be the conscious end of wandering and the beginning of moving you closer to your dreams!

God bless 🙂
