“Trust in dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.” – Kahlil Gibran
“Our truest life is when we are in dreams awake.” – Henry David Thoreau
“Dream on – dream until your dreams come true.” – Steven Tyler (Aerosmith)
“Dreams are the language of God.” – Author Unknown
Each of us, in varying degrees, holds on to a dream or desire for our life. Some of us can describe our dreams in detail. Many of us have timelines and milestones attached to them – keeping us motivated and focused as we go along. Others have a hard time seeing how their dreams can ever come to fruition. Their current circumstances (or maybe things that have happened in their past) have a way of feeding their doubt and disbelief – wondering how their dreams can ever materialize amid all the setbacks and present scenarios that surround their life.
Unfortunately, there are even some of us who have chosen to stop dreaming all together. The passion we once had for a dream or desire we held close to our heart has vanished. Keeping the dream alive seems futile – especially when the realities and facts have a way of pointing to insurmountable barriers and imminent failure.
Have you ever thought to yourself or heard someone say the following:
“I guess I don’t have what it takes to accomplish all my dreams and desires.”
“This sickness, this handicap, this divorce, this loved ones death, or this financial situation has ruined all the plans I had for my life. I can’t possible see how anything can change that.”
“I feel like people, or events, or current situations have caused me to place my dreams on hold right now – forcing me to take a detour I never planned on taking or wanted to take in the first place.”
“I feel like God isn’t interested in my dreams. It seems like He keeps placing barriers in my path or closing doors that lead to fulfilling the desires I have for my life.”
If you have felt this way or know of a friend or family member who is struggling with broken dreams and unmet desires, please take some time to meditate on the following points or share them with your loved ones.
Our Dreams and Passions are Connected to Our Predestined Pathway
For a vast majority of us, our dreams and passions are centered in morality and based on goodness and integrity. As an example, most of us don’t aspire to hurt others or have dreams for our lives that require immoral behavior or a flawed character.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” – James 1:17 NIV
That dream for a good paying job to provide for your family, that passion you hold for certain tasks or hobbies, the desire to be a great parent or to meet someone you can love and share your life with, the desire to lead a happy, healthy life, all these good and perfect dreams come from God Himself! They are placed in our hearts and are connected to our predestined pathway – the journey God has chosen for us to walk here from the beginning of time.
“I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
If your dreams are centered in goodness, morality, and integrity, then realize they are a part of God’s plan for you! That passion to teach, to lead, or to make a difference with your life is God’s way of setting you up for success. Any passion or dream you hold that sets you apart from others – that special talent, attribute, or attitude you possess is deeply connected to why you are here.
You see…that talent or skill you have that most people don’t have, that good dream you have for your life and the people who surround you, those desires that fill your heart, are all good and perfect gifts from the Father. They are meant to fully equip you to walk the pathway in this life that God created you to walk.
You might be thinking…. “If my good dreams and desires are given to me by God and are a part of His prosperous plans for my future, then why do I feel like they are out of reach right now? Why do I continue to face barriers or deal with people who are out to ruin my dreams?”
The Role of Distractions, Delays, and Barriers in Fulfilling Our Dreams
In my own life, I have learned how certain distractions and detours surrounding my dreams have strengthened my resolve and clarified my direction. God has used these negative barriers in a way that helped create a deeper meaning behind my desires. In some cases, He has used them as a learning opportunity to enhance my ability toward accomplishing my dreams in ways I never imagined.
“You, Lord, know every one of my deepest desires…” – Psalm 38:9 CEV
God uses distractions, delays, and barriers as a way of helping us realize the true nature of our dreams and desires – giving them greater and deeper meaning as we move toward their fulfillment in our lives.
Can you see how your health issues have created a greater meaning and appreciation for your life in general? Have they caused you to look at your blessings in a new and different light?
Can you see how the delay in finding a spouse or partner has clarified your desires – causing you to look hard at what it really means to be a good husband or wife – enhancing your ability to become a great partner once the perfect mate comes along?
Can you see how the delay in finding the job of your dreams has given you a greater appreciation for it? Can you see how the delay has helped you prepare in ways you maybe wouldn’t have if you had found it right off the bat?
You see, if God has placed this dream in your heart and it is part of His good and perfect plan for your life, then each distraction, detour, barrier and delay has a meaning and a purpose! Don’t lose faith. Don’t give up. Don’t quit. Keep praying. Keep believing. Keep moving in the direction God has you heading in the moment. Trust that He is actively working in your life – especially during times when it feels like nothing is happening.
Again, as I look back on my own life, I can see how certain delays and barriers added to the value of my dreams and desires. I can see how God used them to prepare me, teach me, and guide me in the direction I needed to head.
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.” – Romans 8:28 NLT
Nothing is Impossible with God
If certain aspects of your dreams seem too impossible to attain or your desires too impossible to reach in the natural, realize that our God is SUPER natural! Nothing is too hard, too improbably, too lofty or too out of control for Him!
“Surely I will deliver you for a good purpose …” – Jeremiah 15:11 NIV
“I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” – Jeremiah 32:27 NIV
“For nothing is impossible for God” – Luke 1:37 NIV
If your financial situation is getting in the way of your dreams and no relief is in sight, remember that God is the Creator and Source of wealth and prosperity. (Deuteronomy 8:18 and Isaiah 45:7)
If sickness and disease have crushed your dreams or a diagnosis seems beyond remedy, remember that God is the Source of all healing and health. (Exodus 15:26, Psalm 103:3 and Jeremiah 17:14)
If people have derailed your dream by their hurtful words or actions, remember that God is in control and no man can interfere with His plans and purposes for your life. (Proverbs 21:30 and Romans 8:31)
What you don’t possess in the natural, those things that are impossible for you to do or accomplish that are connected to your dream, God is able to provide – no matter how impossible or improbable they may appear.
I have found that a large part of God’s supernatural involvement in my dreams center around His omniscience. Sometimes what we dream about and what we desire in the present is NOT the best thing for us in the long run. God, in His loving omniscience, knows this in advance. I can look back on my life and see the dreams that would have turned out horrible had they come to pass. God, through delays, distractions, and barriers, helped me stay on a course that was best for me. Even when it seemed like in the moment He didn’t care, He was looking out for me. When God intervened in my dreams, when He steered me away from the desires I had for my life, it was always because He had something better in mind.
God is doing the same thing in your life my friend 😊 He is supernaturally using His omniscience and His omnipotence to give you a life that’s filled with the best!
So tonight, if you feel like your dreams and passions are out of reach, I hope you realize they are a “good and perfect” God-given gift – setting you up for success in fulfilling your created purpose here on earth.
If God has placed them in your heart and they are a part of His plan for your life, I hope you begin to see any current barriers, distractions, or delays as a part of that same plan – working all together for your good and within God’s perfect timing.
Most of all, remember the improbable and seemingly impossible aspects of those dreams are in the Hands of an omniscient and omnipotent God – making nothing out of reach or unattainable.
“May He give you what you desire and make all your plans succeed.” – Psalm 20:4 GNT
“The Lord will work out His plans for my life – for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me.” – Psalm 138:8 NLT
God bless 😊
