How can the Almighty, the Great I AM, the Creator and Sustainer of all life be so easily overlooked – so quickly forgotten?  How can He become so abruptly misunderstood, hastily misjudged, and mistakenly categorized or compartmentalized?  How can the world and the universe which He spoke into existence become more alluring and interesting than the Creator himself?

Don’t get me wrong.  I am far from judging anyone on this topic.  I have so quickly in my own life chosen fear over remembering His sovereignty over all things.  I have been quick to fret and wonder where the Omnipresent God was when my circumstances got out of control.  I believed things about Him that were far from true – using my own reasoning (the mind He gave me!) to make judgements about who He was and why He acted the way He did.  I ignored Him entirely when life was filled with blessings and cursed Him violently – demanding to know where He was in my situation – when life was filled with suffering.  In so many aspects of life, I forgot, ignored, misread, and as a result, missed out on who He really was, what He was all about, and what purposes He was trying to accomplish within the events of my life.

In the next several days, the theme surrounding the articles I write will be centered in the idea of missing God – overlooking His nature, His impact, His plans, and His ways when it comes to your life – something so easily and effortlessly done by each and every one of us.

One of the things I absolutely love and adore about our God is the quiet, humble nature in which He conducts himself.  It is no wonder He is often missed and forgotten! 

His continual and ever-present providence for us (something I wrote about yesterday) is always at work – gently guiding, steering and directing our lives – especially the timing behind events – in a way that is unobtrusive and discreet.  His glory never outshines us.  He honors our individualism and cherishes our right to create our own path.  His deep and abiding love for us drives Him to remain humbly in the background.

What an awesome….awesome kind of love that is!  By placing us first, He can easily be missed and forgotten.

Today, I want to talk about how easy it is to miss God in the smallest things – in the tiniest of details!  He is in them all my friend 🙂

The Bible verse above reminds us of that fact.  Sparrows are everywhere!  Think of what their population might be across this planet – yet not one of them falls to the ground outside of God’s care.  How insignificant are the EXACT numbers of hairs on our head, yet God knows of each one (Luke 12:7) and He has collected in a bottle every tear we have ever cried (Psalm 56:8).

Those little details we so often ignore – like awakening every morning – He is squarely in the middle of instigating.  Each heartbeat and drawing of breath – the touch you experience in your fingers and the taste of each bite of food.

The aroma of the coffee, the warmth of the sun, the sustaining and life-giving rain.  The sound of laughter, the feeling of love you have for someone, and the comfort of your own bed at night.

He is in the idea that arises, the glistening of the star you’re gazing at tonight, and behind the glimmer in the eyes of the children you cherish.    

That job, the friend you count on, and the family that supports you – He is in every form of care, love, and sustenance present in your life.

If you can begin to see Him in all the smallest of things, you will begin to see Him in ALL THINGS that transpire within your life – just like Donald Hicks mentions above.

Tomorrow, starting off first thing in the morning, look for God in all of the smallest of details 🙂 Like the Scripture verse says above, if we seek Him wholeheartedly, we WILL FIND HIM! 

All of us spend our time waiting for God to do BIG THINGS in our life, to solve BIG ISSUES and pressing, immediate needs.  When we focus on this, we miss truly seeing Him for who He really is – a God who is intricately involved in the most miniscule of details.

SEE HIM IN THE SMALL THINGS and you will begin to see Him in everything!
