The mystery behind tomorrow is already daunting, but for some of us, when you add to that a large sense of uncertainty about the future, contemplating what lies ahead can become overwhelming.

You might be facing a dire diagnosis and what will unfold tomorrow is both unclear and frightening to you.  Maybe you recently learned that all you have been working on to secure a bright and prosperous tomorrow is now simply impossible – not improbable, but utterly impossible to recover all that was lost.

Maybe you have a big dream or a goal for your future that has no possible way of coming to fruition.  You have no resources currently to bring it about and no idea how your life-long aspiration will ever become reality.

For some, it’s an important relationship that can’t possibly continue – bringing about unspeakable heartache and uncertainty.  For others, a job loss so devastating, it changes everything for your family.

What do we do when our tomorrows are so unclear, so uncertain, and seemingly so impossible to change?

Nothing Now Can Possibly Remove Tomorrow’s Uncertainty

For me, a large part of removing the anxiety associated with an unclear tomorrow is the very fact that nothing can be done in the current moments of life to rectify the ambiguity.  So often when the future is uncertain, we feel compelled to DO SOMETHING to impact or influence the outcome.  The anxiety comes from trying to control what unfolds tomorrow via the actions we choose to take in the moment.  We worry and lament over making the right decisions, when in reality; any decision we make doesn’t guarantee a positive outcome nor does it erase the mystery and uncertainty that tomorrow brings.

Peace comes when we realize that an unclear tomorrow is EXACTLY what a normal tomorrow brings for all of us.  Anything can happen – ranging from even deeper uncertainty to miraculous turnarounds.

God’s Guidance, His Grace, and His Provision are Certain and Assured

One thing that is immutable, assured, guaranteed, and undeniable about an unclear tomorrow is that God’s guidance, grace, and provision can be found there!  This certainty can be found in all that is uncertain and unclear about your tomorrows.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” — Proverbs 3:5‑6

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” — Isaiah 30:21

Look and Listen for God in Your Present Moments

“You will call to me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.” – Jeremiah 29:12-13 CSB

If the tomorrows in your life are unclear and uncertain, focus your thoughts and efforts on moving closer to God today.  God promises us to move closer to us as we move closer to Him (James 4:8).

Think about it like this:  God is all-knowing, purpose-driven, and acts with precise intention and timing.  As you move closer to Him, you move closer to the presence of those attributes.  As we pray and focus on him, we move closer to clarity and assurance.

The key, as Mother Teresa states above, is to incorporate listening during prayer time – bending your ear toward the Gentle Whisper in your heart.  God also promises us answers to our questions (James 1:5) and guidance if we surrender our way to Him (Proverbs 3: 5-6).

God is Already in Tomorrow

“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” – Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV

“I will go before you and make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron.” – Isaiah 45:2 NKJV

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”  – Revelation 1:8 NIV

It is so easy to forget that God is already present in tomorrow.  He clearly sees what seems unclear to you and knows with certainty what seems cloudy and uncertain in your mind.

I love the verse from Isaiah above, helping us to see how God is active RIGHT NOW in our tomorrows – smoothing out the jagged difficulties and the twisted circumstances so our path forward is straight and purpose-filled.  We can trust Him with our future 😊

Another comforting thought: “With God, all things are possible.” – Matthew 19:26 NIV

My friend, if you are looking at tomorrow and see nothing but impossibility, be reminded today that you serve a God who performs miracles!  ALL THINGS are possible with Him!
