Moving Closer to the Source of All Things

“Each truth we find (in life) leads us a step closer to God.” – Donald L. Hicks

“God trusts most those who know Him best, and those who know Him best are those who have spent the most time with Him.” – Mark Batterson

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” – Psalm 145:18 NIV

“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.” – Isaiah 55:6 NIV

Take some time this evening to ask yourself the following questions:

Do I need more peace and contentment in my life or more strife, calamity and upheaval right now?

Could I use more wisdom and discernment or more confusion and indecisiveness?

Would I prefer to have more light and enlightenment in my life or more darkness and uncertainty?  How about a greater understanding of the truth, or maybe more deception, disillusionment, or deceit?

Would I prefer more love and acceptance or more hurt and rejection – more forgiveness or more blame and accusation?

How about experiencing more abundance and joy in life, or I would you prefer more lack, need, grief or misery?

The answers to these questions seem pretty obvious, yet many of us make decisions in our life each day that gradually pull us farther away from the very center or source of all that is right, truthful and good – farther away from what we truly desire and need in order to live a full and satisfying life.

In many, many cases, the choice isn’t made so blatantly or with a conscious awareness.  As an example, we don’t wake up one morning choosing darkness and uncertainty over truth and enlightenment, but we can move (ever so slowly and gradually) in a direction that eventually becomes a polar opposite of what we truly seek and desire.  It’s like taking baby steps away from a campfire.  At first, you don’t notice the difference, but eventually the light fades and the warmth diminishes and before you know it, you find yourself in a very dark, cold place.

As you look back at the questions I asked earlier, realize that God is peace, contentment, love and forgiveness.  He is wisdom, truth, and light.  In Him we experience true joy and abundance.  God is indeed the Source of all things!

“For everything comes from Him; everything exists by His power and is intended for His glory.”  (Romans 12:36 NLT)

“He created everything there is.  Nothing exists that He didn’t make.  Life itself was in Him, and this life gives light to everyone.  This light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”  (John 1: 3-5 NLT)

“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you.  Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls.”  (Matthew 11:28-29 NLT)

“I am the Light of the world.  He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”  (John 8:12 NKJV)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.”  (Proverbs 3: 5-6 NIV)

“If you need wisdom – if you want to know what God wants you to do – ask Him, and He will gladly tell you.”  (James 1:5 NLT)

“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life …” (John 14:6 NKJV)

“If you abide in My Word, you are My disciples indeed.  And you will know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  (John 8:31-32 NKJV)

“The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.  As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103: 8 and 12)

“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving kindness I have drawn you.”  (Jeremiah 31:3 NKJV)

If God is indeed the Source of all things, how are you moving closer to Him in your daily walk through this life?

When you need wisdom for an important decision or special discernment about a person or problem, do you move closer to the Source of those things via prayer and meditation or do you take baby steps the other direction by relying on your own reasoning and intellect?

When life is filled with turmoil, do you move closer to the Source of all peace and contentment or do you turn and take baby steps toward things that distract and ease the pain temporarily?

If you need more love, forgiveness, patience, and understanding in your life, move closer to the Source of those things and like the campfire example I mentioned earlier, you will begin to feel and experience the light, warmth, and the glow you need so desperately within your circumstances.

If life is filled with lies, deception, and darkness, move closer to the Way, the Truth, and the Life 🙂

If you are experiencing great lack and emptiness, move closer to the One who has come that we may have a full, abundant life. (John 10:10)

We take steps closer to the Source of all things when we nurture our prayer life, when we seek answers to our prayers through mediation and expectancy, and when we strive to live in a way that’s consistent with God’s values and principles for us.  Anything we do that seeks a deeper, more meaningful relationship with Him is moving us closer to the Source!

The closer we get, the more love we experience ourselves and readily give to others.  The closer we get, the more wisdom we obtain to better face all our obstacles.  The closer we get, the more peace we receive and share with those around us.  The closer we get, more truth is revealed and more light comes forth to take away any darkness or uncertainty.

I pray tonight that you think diligently about what you are doing to move closer to the Source of all things in your life – making a commitment to take steps His direction every chance you get!

God bless 🙂
